End Teenage Pregnancy Hacklab (ETP)
End Teenage Pregnancy Hacklab (ETP)
Uganda is facing a significant challenge in the form of high rates of teenage pregnancy, which is among the highest globally. Roughly 25% of adolescent girls aged 15-19 have started childbearing, with rural areas experiencing higher rates than urban areas. This trend is exacerbated by a lack of access to comprehensive sexual and reproductive health education and services, as only around 30% of adolescent girls have adequate knowledge about HIV/AIDS and contraception. In response to this issue, Ndaba was selected as one of the top four youth innovation groups to receive Shs37 million each for their unique innovations aimed at curbing teenage pregnancies among girls in the country. This initiative, called the End Teenage Pregnancy HackLab 2023, is part of the UN Joint Programme on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Uganda, which was launched in July and is funded by Sweden and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). OutBox Uganda is partnering with the UNFPA to support this program.
